Marty Qatani

Marty Qatani, cartoonist, characterdesigner, humorous illustrator and freelance graphic artist.

I've always enjoyed drawing cartoons. Growing up, my family watched TV every night. While everyone was lulled into zombiedom by whatever show was on, I was laying on the floor with a stack of paper and assorted pens, drawing whatever came into my head.

Like any other kid growing up, Saturday morning was my favorite time of the week. Cartoons, man, incredibly adventurous and wonderous cartoons. Cartoons that I consider classic... the original Jonny Quest, The Impossibles, The Herculoids, Birdman - before he was a lawyer, Top Cat, The Banana Splits ( not a cartoon, I know, but still a classic), almost anything Hanna Barbera put out, and numerous shows from Filmation, including The New Adventures of Superman, and The Lone Ranger.

As I got older, other art starting catching my eye, the Fillmore/60's RockPosters of Rick Griffin, Stanley Mouse, Alton Kelley, the comic strips Bloom County, Doonesbury, and Calvin and Hobbes. Unlike other people, though, when it came to comic strips, although the humor was great, I was drawn to them by the way they were drawn, that's what caught my eye first, and that's what still does. As I grew older still, I discovered Vintage Rock and Jazz Album covers, old Packaging and label art, and I've recently rediscovered the animation art from the Fleischer Studios.... it's all amazing stuff.

And when I create something, all those incredibly cool images are just bubbling around in my head like a cartoon pop gumbo, and pour out onto paper. I hope you like what you see. Thanks for taking a peek.

I am currently developing several original character based properties, including The Jr. Dino Club, Spooky Sports, and The Kat, as well as designs geared for the art licensing industry, in addition to providing humorous illustrations and cartoon designs for various companies and organizations.
